Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue is a massage technique that focuses on realigning deeper layers of tissue.  Treating and targeting musculoskeletal and connective tissue pain caused by strains, injuries, tight muscles and chronic aches.   It uses some of the same techniques as Swedish massage but requires more pressure using slower, deeper strokes to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles.)  The techniques used help break up scar tissue and adhesions that form following an injury, which can block circulation.  This can cause pain, limited movement and inflammation.  Deep tissue massage reduces and relieves tension in muscle tissue to promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing this inflammation.  At certain points during the massage some people may experience slight discomfort or pain, you might be sore the next day.  It's important to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues.
